Cookie Policy
How MaltaList uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you control them.
Last updated: 28 July 2026.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help a site remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in. Some are set by us (first-party) and some by third-party services we use.
2. Your Choices
We group non-essential cookies into three categories that load only after you opt in: Analytics (Google Analytics), Anti-spam (Google reCAPTCHA) and Marketing (the Meta Pixel and Google Ads). When you first visit, a banner lets you accept all, reject the non-essential ones, or choose per category, and you can change your decision at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. If you do not accept Anti-spam cookies, the features that depend on reCAPTCHA (the contact form, the report-ad form and the reveal-contact button) stay disabled. Marketing cookies stay off unless you turn them on, because advertising tracking needs your explicit consent.
3. Cookies We Use
The cookies and similar identifiers we set or allow:
- session (MaltaList, first-party, strictly necessary): links your browser to a signed-in session on our server. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. Lasts 30 days, or until you sign out
- mlq (MaltaList, first-party, QR short-link domain only, strictly necessary): a random identifier set only when you open one of our QR short links, so scanning the same code twice is not counted as two different people. It contains no personal details, is never linked to your account, and exists only on the domain that serves the redirects. Lasts 13 months
- bid (MaltaList, first-party, strictly necessary): a random identifier used to count views and visitors accurately and to limit abuse. It contains no personal details and is not used to track you across other sites. Lasts 1 year
- _ga and _ga_* (Google Analytics, analytics, opt-in): distinguishes visitors and measures how the site is used. Set only after you accept analytics cookies. Lasts up to 2 years
- _GRECAPTCHA (Google reCAPTCHA, anti-spam, opt-in): helps Google tell humans from bots to protect our forms from abuse. Set only after you accept anti-spam cookies. Lasts up to 6 months
- _fbp and _fbc (Meta, the Facebook Pixel, marketing, opt-in): lets us measure how our ads on Facebook and Instagram perform and show our ads to people with similar interests. Set only after you accept marketing cookies. Lasts up to 3 months
- _gcl_* (Google Ads, marketing, opt-in): lets us see which of our Google ads led to a visit. Set only after you accept marketing cookies. Lasts up to 90 days
4. Local Storage
We use your browser's local storage to remember your cookie choices, so we do not have to ask again on every visit. No personal data is stored there.
5. Managing Cookies in Your Browser
Beyond our own controls, you can manage cookies through your browser settings, and Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all document how. Disabling the session cookie will prevent you from signing in; you can still browse listings as a guest.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. If an update changes the cookies we use, we will ask you to review your cookie choices again, unless you had previously accepted all cookies, in which case your acceptance carries over to the updated set.
7. Contact
If you have questions about our use of cookies, please contact us at info@maltalist.mt.
