The Wignacourt Museum in Rabat occupies a site materially linked to St Paul's Grotto, the cradle of Christianity in Malta. Its picture gallery holds works by Mattia Preti, Antoine Favray, and other European and Maltese artists, alongside 17th-19th century Spanish, Italian, and Maltese silver, ancient coins, maps, rare manuscripts, and the theological writings of King Henry VIII. Visitors can explore a Baroque chapel, a portable altar once used on Knights of Malta galleys, and underground Punic, Roman, and Christian burial chambers together with restored Second World War shelter corridors of approximately 50 rooms. Open daily from 09:30 to 17:00.
